Peter Jones is the only original 2005 Dragon's Den investor still associated with the BBC panel.
Jones was part of the first investor group when the British programme launched on BBC Two in January 2005. The original panel also included Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Simon Woodroffe and Theo Paphitis. As the years passed, those other original investors departed and were replaced by newer dragons.
Jones is a British entrepreneur whose business interests have included technology, media, leisure and property. On Dragon's Den, he is recognised for examining a pitch’s valuation, growth prospects and the entrepreneur’s ability to execute the plan.
“Original dragon” refers to membership of the launch panel, not to a person who invented the programme or made the first investment. The panel’s changing membership is a frequent source of confusion, particularly because several early dragons remained familiar to viewers after leaving the show.
