Which Dragon's Den investor is the longest-serving original UK dragon?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jones is the longest-serving original UK dragon on Dragon's Den.

Jones has been a dragon since the programme's first UK series in 2005 and has remained associated with the panel throughout the show's long run. He is an entrepreneur and investor whose business interests have included technology, telecommunications, media and property.

The word “original” matters. Jones was part of the launch panel, alongside Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Theo Paphitis and Doug Richard. Several other early dragons later joined or departed, while Jones continued as a constant presence. Deborah Meaden, although also a long-serving investor, joined in series three rather than the first series.

Jones is also linked to notable investments shown on the programme, including the deal associated with Levi Roots. His long tenure makes him one of the defining figures in the British version, but the panel's membership has changed repeatedly since 2005.
