Peter Jones is associated with Phones International Group, the telecommunications business he founded.
Jones built much of his early entrepreneurial career in technology and communications. Phones International Group operated in the mobile-phone sector, a rapidly changing market in which businesses had to respond to new handsets, networks and consumer buying habits.
His telecommunications background helps explain why he became one of Dragon's Den's most recognisable investors. On the programme, he has often shown interest in scalable consumer products, technology and businesses with the potential to grow beyond a local market.
Phones International Group should not be confused with a mobile network operator. It was a business group associated with mobile-phone retail and related telecommunications activity, while networks such as Vodafone and O2 provide network services. Jones's television profile later became at least as familiar as his original technology businesses.
