Which Dragons' Den investor founded YO! Sushi in 1997?

The story behind the answer

Dragons' Den investor Simon Woodroffe founded YO! Sushi in 1997.

Woodroffe created YO! Sushi after being inspired by Japanese restaurants that used a conveyor belt to move dishes past diners. The first restaurant opened in Soho, London, and customers selected plates as they passed by rather than ordering every dish from a menu.

The brand became known for its kaiten-style conveyor service, open kitchen presentation and colour-coded plates. Its concept helped make sushi more accessible to a wider British audience during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Woodroffe was one of the original investors on the first British series of Dragons' Den. He later left the panel after the initial series. YO! Sushi continued under different ownership, so the restaurant chain's later corporate owners should not be confused with its founder.
