Nick Jenkins founded the personalised greeting-card company Moonpig before becoming a Dragon on the British television series Dragon’s Den.
Jenkins launched Moonpig in 2000 after identifying an opportunity to sell personalised cards online. Customers could add names and photographs, making the product different from standard cards sold in shops. The company’s name came from Jenkins’s childhood nickname for his wife, which he used as the brand name.
Jenkins joined Dragon’s Den as an investor in 2015, appearing alongside Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman and Sarah Willingham in the programme’s thirteenth series. He remained on the panel for one series before leaving the show.
Moonpig is sometimes confused with Card Factory because both operate in the greeting-card market. However, Moonpig began as an online personalised-card business, while Card Factory developed primarily through physical retail stores. Jenkins’s role as founder, rather than merely an early investor, is the key fact.
