Which Dragon's Den investor founded the hotel and restaurant business Bannatyne Group?

The story behind the answer

Duncan Bannatyne founded the hotel and restaurant business Bannatyne Group.

Bannatyne built his business career through a range of ventures before developing the group that bears his name. The Bannatyne brand became particularly associated with health clubs, spas and hotels, while the wider business history also included care homes and other enterprises.

He was part of Dragon's Den's original investor panel when the British programme began in 2005. On screen, Bannatyne was known for testing entrepreneurs on practical business questions, especially operating costs, ownership and the likelihood of a company generating sustainable returns.

The Bannatyne Group should not be confused with another investor's company or with a television brand created by the programme. It is named after Duncan Bannatyne, whose business interests predated his television career. He remained a prominent Dragon for many series before leaving the show.
