Anita Roddick founded the cosmetics company The Body Shop.

Roddick opened the first Body Shop in Brighton, England, in 1976. She built the company around personal-care products, refillable packaging and ethical claims that distinguished it from many mainstream cosmetics retailers of the period.

She appeared as a guest investor on the UK edition of Dragon's Den. Her presence connected the programme with one of Britain's most famous retail entrepreneurs, although she was not a permanent Dragon on the regular panel.

The Body Shop later became an international brand with stores in many countries. The company is sometimes confused with its later ownership history, but the founder remains Anita Roddick.
