Which Dragon's Den investor founded the business services company Amstrad?

The story behind the answer

Alan Sugar founded the business services and electronics company Amstrad.

Sugar established Amstrad in 1968. The name was formed from his initials, A.M.S., and the word trading. The company became known for consumer electronics, including affordable home computers and satellite television equipment.

Sugar joined Dragon's Den as a Dragon in the programme's first series, but he later became associated with The Apprentice rather than the panel. His entrepreneurial background gave him particular authority when assessing manufacturing, retail and technology pitches.

Amstrad is sometimes remembered only as a computer brand, although its products covered several parts of the consumer-electronics market. The company was acquired by Sky in 2007, ending its life as an independent publicly traded business.
