Kelly Hoppen became known as Dragon’s Den’s “fashion Dragon” after joining the programme in 2013. She brought a design and interiors background to a panel otherwise strongly associated with retail, property, manufacturing and finance.
Hoppen is an interior designer whose work is associated with a distinctive minimalist style. On Dragon’s Den, her expertise made her especially relevant to pitches involving design, presentation, branding and consumer appeal, although she assessed businesses across many sectors.
Her appointment followed the departure of Hilary Devey and added another high-profile creative-industry perspective to the investor line-up. The programme’s terminology can cause confusion because “fashion Dragon” is an informal description, not an official job title.
Hoppen later left the regular panel, as Dragon’s Den has periodically changed its investors. Other Dragons have also had strong design or retail credentials, but Hoppen is the investor most directly linked with the fashion-and-interiors label.
