Which Dragon's Den investor acquired the fashion company Hawes & Curtis in 2001?

The story behind the answer

Dragon's Den investor Touker Suleyman acquired the fashion company Hawes & Curtis in 2001.

Hawes & Curtis is a British shirtmaker founded in London in 1913. Suleyman purchased the company in 2001 and helped develop it as a menswear and womenswear retailer, with a particular emphasis on formal shirts and tailored clothing.

Suleyman was born in Famagusta, Cyprus, and built his career in fashion and retail before becoming a television investor. His other business interests have included the clothing retailer Ghost and investments in consumer brands.

The acquisition date is important because Hawes & Curtis was not founded by Suleyman. He became its owner decades after the company began trading. He joined Dragon's Den in 2015, bringing fashion-industry experience to the panel.
