Rob Law pitched the ride-on children's suitcase Trunki on Dragons' Den.
Law is the British product designer and entrepreneur behind Trunki, a lightweight suitcase designed so children can sit on it and ride while travelling. He presented the product on Dragons' Den in 2006. The pitch became especially memorable because the Dragons did not make an investment offer, yet Trunki went on to become a successful commercial product.
The story illustrates an important distinction between television exposure and a completed deal. Appearing on the programme does not guarantee investment, and rejection does not necessarily prevent a business from succeeding. Trunki's later growth came through product development, manufacturing, distribution and sales outside the show.
The name is sometimes confused with the company or product itself. Rob Law is the entrepreneur; Trunki is the branded children's ride-on suitcase. The product became associated with family travel and won recognition for its distinctive design.
