Sugru is a self-setting silicone rubber that users can shape by hand before it cures. Ní Dhulchaointigh developed the material while studying at the Royal College of Art, exploring ways to repair and modify everyday objects instead of throwing them away.

The name Sugru comes from an Irish word meaning “play.” The product was commercialised by FormFormForm, the company founded by Ní Dhulchaointigh, and became known for household repairs, custom grips and small creative modifications.

Sugru is sometimes described simply as glue, but that label misses an important part of its identity: it is a mouldable adhesive compound that changes form before setting. The entrepreneur’s surname is also sometimes written without the accent or Irish characters, but Jane Ní Dhulchaointigh is the canonical form used in references to the inventor.
