Which Dragon was the first Scottish investor on the British TV show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Duncan Bannatyne was the first Scottish investor on the British TV show Dragon's Den.

Bannatyne joined the original panel when Dragon's Den launched in 2005. Born in Glasgow, he became known for building businesses in health clubs, care homes and hotels before becoming a familiar television investor.

His route into business was unconventional. After leaving school and serving in the Royal Navy, he worked in several occupations before starting a successful ice-cream business. He later expanded into other sectors and became a prominent philanthropist and author.

Bannatyne remained a Dragon for many series, but he eventually left the programme in 2014. His departure is separate from the question of first representation: he was the earliest Scottish investor in the British panel, while later Dragons came from a variety of regional and international backgrounds.
