Alan Sugar was the Dragon known by the title Lord Sugar during his appearances on Dragon's Den.
Alan Sugar is a British businessman who founded Amstrad in 1968. The company became prominent in consumer electronics, producing computers, satellite television equipment and other products. Sugar later became a broadcaster and was awarded a life peerage in 2009, allowing him to sit in the House of Lords and use the title Lord Sugar of Clapton.
He appeared as a Dragon on the British programme during its early years, including the period when he invested in businesses such as the cosmetics company Tropic Skincare. His public persona combined direct questioning with a strong focus on sales, margins and the entrepreneur's ability to execute a plan.
The title can cause confusion because “Lord Sugar” is not a separate person's name. It is the title used by Alan Sugar after his appointment to the House of Lords. He is also distinct from Lord Karan Bilimoria, who appeared as a guest Dragon in later series. The answer therefore uses his personal name, Alan Sugar.
