Deborah Meaden joined the UK Dragon's Den panel in series 3 after replacing Rachel Elnaugh.
Meaden first appeared as a Dragon in 2006, when the programme moved beyond its initial two series. She brought experience from family business, leisure and retail ventures, and became one of the show's most recognisable investors. Her direct questioning and emphasis on commercial fundamentals became familiar features of her appearances.
Rachel Elnaugh was one of the original Dragons in the first series but departed before Meaden's arrival. This change is sometimes misdated because the programme's investor line-up evolved rapidly during its early years.
Meaden's participation should also be distinguished from her investments outside the show. Appearing on Dragon's Den does not mean she invested in every business she discussed. Her role was to assess pitches and decide individually whether a proposed deal suited her.
