Which Dragon founded the electronics company Amstrad?

The story behind the answer

Alan Sugar founded the electronics company Amstrad.

Sugar established Amstrad in 1968, and the company became known for consumer electronics, including audio equipment, home computers and satellite television hardware. The name is derived from Alan Michael Sugar Trading. Amstrad's products helped make home computing and electronic entertainment more accessible to mass-market consumers in Britain.

Sugar joined Dragons' Den as a Dragon in the later history of the programme, but his business career began decades earlier. This chronology matters: Amstrad was not created through the television show, and Sugar was already a prominent entrepreneur before becoming a television investor.

Amstrad is especially associated with the Amstrad CPC home-computer range and the company's later work with Sky satellite receivers. The business was acquired by BSkyB in 2007. Those corporate developments are separate from Sugar's continuing public identity as the founder of the original electronics company.
