Which Dragon founded the British hotel group Malmaison?
Answer
Ken McCulloch
Answer
Ken McCulloch
Ken McCulloch founded the British hotel group Malmaison.
McCulloch opened the first Malmaison hotel in Edinburgh in 1994. The concept turned former commercial or industrial buildings into distinctive urban hotels, combining individual design with restaurant and bar facilities. Malmaison became an influential name in the development of the United Kingdom's boutique-hotel sector.
McCulloch later appeared as a Dragon on the BBC programme, but his television tenure was brief compared with the long-serving investors most viewers remember. This makes him easy to confuse with Simon Woodroffe, another Dragon associated with hotel entrepreneurship through the YOTEL concept.
The Malmaison brand expanded to cities across Britain. Its name refers to the Château de Malmaison near Paris, the former home of Napoleon and Joséphine, giving the hotel group a French-inspired identity.
