Duncan Bannatyne co-founded the health-club business Bannatyne Group before appearing on Dragons' Den.
Bannatyne built his business career across several sectors before concentrating on health clubs, hotels and spas. The Bannatyne Group became a major British operator in the health and fitness market, with clubs offering gym facilities and related leisure services.
He joined the original Dragons' Den panel when the British series launched in 2005. His personal story, including an early business in ice cream vans and later expansion into larger enterprises, became part of the programme’s wider appeal: contestants were questioned by investors with very different routes to commercial success.
