Which Dragon acquired the fashion retailer Hawes & Curtis in 2001?

The story behind the answer

Touker Suleyman acquired the fashion retailer Hawes & Curtis in 2001.

Hawes & Curtis is a British shirtmaker and menswear brand with roots dating to 1913. Suleyman bought the business when it was in financial difficulty and developed it as part of his wider fashion interests. The company is particularly associated with formal shirts, tailoring and classic British menswear.

Suleyman is sometimes confused with Theo Paphitis because both Dragons built careers in British retail. Their businesses, however, followed different paths: Paphitis became closely linked with Ryman, while Suleyman became prominent in fashion and clothing.

Suleyman joined Dragon's Den in the 13th series, bringing experience from manufacturing, wholesale and fashion retail. Hawes & Curtis remains one of the best-known companies connected with his business career.
