The Dior Saddle bag debuted in 1999 under creative director John Galliano and has a distinctive curved shape.
Galliano designed the bag with an asymmetrical, curved profile inspired by a horse’s saddle. Its short shoulder strap and compact form gave it a strong visual identity, making it immediately recognizable from the side.
The Saddle became one of Dior’s signature accessories and was closely associated with the house’s late-1990s and early-2000s fashion. Dior later revived the design, presenting updated versions in new materials and with longer straps for crossbody wear.
The name is sometimes confused with Dior’s Bar bag, but the two designs are different. The Bar bag references the house’s Bar jacket, while the Saddle is identified by its equestrian-inspired curved body.
