Shaun Pulfrey founded Tangle Teezer, the detangling hairbrush brand associated with Dragons' Den.
Pulfrey, a British hairdresser and inventor, developed the brush after noticing that conventional brushing could pull and damage tangled hair. The product uses rows of flexible teeth arranged to pass through knots with less snagging. He presented the idea on Dragons' Den, but the Dragons did not invest in the business.
The rejection did not prevent the brand from growing. Tangle Teezer later expanded into several brush designs for wet hair, dry hair, curly hair and different styling needs. Its success is often cited as an example of an entrepreneur continuing after failing to secure a televised deal.
The brand is sometimes confused with salon labels such as Denman or GHD, which also make hair tools. Tangle Teezer specifically identifies the flexible-toothed detangling-brush concept created by Pulfrey. Its Dragons' Den appearance is notable because the commercial success came after the unsuccessful pitch.
