Which designer styled the fifth-generation Mustang exterior?

The story behind the answer

Sid Ramnarace styled the fifth-generation Mustang exterior.

Ramnarace’s design was developed for Ford’s S197 Mustang and drew heavily on the visual language of late-1960s fastbacks. The result used a long hood, short rear deck, pronounced rear haunches, and three-element taillamps to make the 2005 Mustang look modern while clearly reconnecting it with its heritage.

The exterior design was developed through 2001 and 2002, then previewed by Mustang concept cars at the 2003 North American International Auto Show. Production of the fifth-generation car began in September 2004 for the 2005 model year.

J Mays is a frequent alternative answer because he was Ford’s senior design executive and described the overall approach as “retro-futurism.” He helped shape the design direction, but Ramnarace is credited with the exterior styling itself. Kemal Curić styled the later sixth-generation Mustang, not this one.
