Which designer founded the British handbag brand Mulberry in 1971?
Answer
Roger Saul
Answer
Roger Saul
Roger Saul founded the British handbag brand Mulberry in 1971.
Saul established Mulberry in Somerset, England, when he was 21 years old. The company initially made belts and other leather accessories before expanding into handbags and becoming an important British luxury label. Its countryside setting and traditional leather production became part of the brand’s identity.
Mulberry is known for designs including the Bayswater, Alexa, and Amberley. The Alexa was named after model and broadcaster Alexa Chung, while the Bayswater became one of the house’s best-known structured bags. Mulberry has worked with several designers and creative directors during its history.
Roger Saul is sometimes confused with later Mulberry creative leaders, including Johnny Coca or Stuart Vevers. They shaped products and collections, but Saul founded the company. The founding date, 1971, also predates the launch of many of Mulberry’s most recognizable handbags by several decades.
