Which designer created McDonald’s modern Golden Arches logo introduced in 1968?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler created McDonald’s modern Golden Arches logo introduced in 1968.

Schindler worked for McDonald’s and developed the familiar connected “M” design from the separate arches used on the chain’s early restaurants. The redesign made the arches function as a recognizable corporate symbol rather than simply as architectural features.

The arches themselves originated in restaurant buildings designed in the 1950s, particularly the locations associated with architect Stanley Meston. That history can cause confusion: Meston is linked to the physical arches, while Schindler is credited with the later logo form.

The 1968 redesign also helped McDonald’s use the arches consistently on signs, packaging, and other branded materials. The symbol later became one of the world’s most recognizable corporate marks.
