Jim Schindler created McDonald's first widely recognized combined Golden Arches logo in 1962.
The design joined the two yellow arches from McDonald's restaurant architecture into a stylized “M.” This converted a physical roadside feature into a compact graphic mark that could appear on signs, packaging, uniforms, and advertising.
Stanley Clark Meston is also central to the story because he designed the original restaurant arches in 1952. Schindler's role was different: he developed the graphic combination that made the arches function as a corporate logo. The distinction matters because the architectural arches and the later logo are related but were not created by the same designer.
