Which designer created McDonald's 1962 Golden Arches logo from two separate arches?
Answer
Jim Schindler
Answer
Jim Schindler
Jim Schindler created McDonald's 1962 Golden Arches logo by joining two separate arches into an M.
The company already used yellow arches on restaurant buildings, but the earlier design treated them as separate architectural elements. Schindler's work converted those elements into a compact graphic mark suitable for corporate identification.
That M-shaped treatment became much more versatile than the building design. It could be reproduced on signs, cartons, wrappers, advertisements, and uniforms, allowing customers to identify McDonald's away from a restaurant façade.
Stanley Clark Meston is another important name in the story, but he designed the original architectural arches in 1952. Ray Kroc was the major expansion figure, not the logo designer. Louis Cheskin later contributed to McDonald's identity and research, which is why his name can also appear in accounts of the brand's visual development.
