Which designer created Chanel’s Fall 2014 supermarket-themed runway show?
Answer
Karl Lagerfeld
Answer
Karl Lagerfeld
Karl Lagerfeld created Chanel’s Fall 2014 supermarket-themed runway show.
For Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into a giant supermarket called “Chanel Shopping Center.” Models walked through aisles carrying branded versions of everyday products, including food packaging, cleaning supplies and household goods.
The show demonstrated Lagerfeld’s approach to fashion presentation: the set was designed as a major visual event, while Chanel’s familiar codes appeared on clothing and accessories. The supermarket concept also played with the relationship between luxury branding, consumer culture and ordinary shopping.
It is sometimes incorrectly credited to Virginie Viard, who later became Chanel’s creative director after Lagerfeld’s death in 2019. The supermarket show predates Viard’s leadership and was designed under Lagerfeld. It was presented in Paris as part of the women’s ready-to-wear calendar.
