Which date is celebrated annually as World Emoji Day?

World Emoji Day is celebrated annually on July 17.

The event was established by Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge in 2014 as an informal celebration of emoji and their role in digital communication. July 17 was chosen because Apple’s calendar emoji displays that date in many versions of the company’s artwork.

World Emoji Day is not a Unicode approval deadline or an official United Nations holiday. It is a public awareness and celebration day associated with emoji culture, design, technology, and online communication.

The date can look like a Unicode fact because calendar artwork varies by platform, but the widely recognized connection is specifically to Apple’s calendar icon. Events and announcements on July 17 often include new emoji discussions, emoji-related records, and social-media campaigns.
