Which Cunard liner rescued 705 survivors from the Titanic disaster in 1912?

The story behind the answer

RMS Carpathia rescued 705 survivors from the Titanic disaster in 1912.

Carpathia was operating for the Cunard Line when it received Titanic’s distress calls during the early hours of 15 April 1912. Captain Arthur Rostron ordered the ship toward the sinking liner at maximum speed, despite the danger of ice in the area.

Carpathia reached the site several hours after Titanic sank and recovered survivors from the ship’s lifeboats. It brought them to New York, arriving on 18 April 1912. Contemporary accounts praised Rostron and the crew for their emergency response, and Rostron later received recognition for the rescue.

Carpathia did not collide with Titanic and did not arrive before the sinking. It rescued people who had already escaped in lifeboats. The Californian is often mentioned in discussions of the disaster because of its nearby position, but Carpathia was the vessel that collected and transported the survivors.
