Which C.S. Lewis novel was the second published book in the Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

Prince Caspian was the second published book in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. It appeared in 1951, following The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which was published in 1950.

The story returns Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy to Narnia, where time has passed differently from their world. They encounter Prince Caspian, who is resisting the rule of his uncle, King Miraz. The Pevensies help restore the older Narnian order and encounter the return of Aslan.

Publication order and internal chronological order are sometimes confused. Prince Caspian is second by publication, while The Magician’s Nephew is often listed first in chronological reading order because it describes Narnia’s creation. Different editions have sometimes numbered the series differently, but Prince Caspian remains the second published volume.

The title character is not one of the four Pevensie children. Caspian is a Narnian prince whose struggle drives the novel’s central conflict.
