Which C.S. Lewis novel is the second volume of his Space Trilogy?
Answer
Perelandra
Answer
Perelandra
Perelandra is the second volume of C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy.
Published in 1943, Perelandra follows Out of the Silent Planet and precedes That Hideous Strength. The trilogy’s central character is Elwin Ransom, a philologist who becomes involved in conflicts extending beyond Earth.
In Perelandra, Ransom travels to the planet Venus, which is also called Perelandra. The novel presents a newly created world facing a temptation that echoes the biblical story of humanity’s fall, while developing Lewis’s themes of language, obedience, evil, and cosmic conflict.
The title can be confused with the trilogy’s other two novels because all three belong to the same sequence. Till We Have Faces is a separate Lewis novel, published in 1956, and is not part of the Space Trilogy.
