Which C.S. Lewis novel is the middle book of his Space Trilogy?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the middle book of C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy.

The novel was published in 1943 and is also known by the title Voyage to Venus. It follows Elwin Ransom on the planet Perelandra, which is identified with Venus, where he becomes involved in a struggle concerning temptation, freedom, and the future of a newly created world.

The trilogy begins with Out of the Silent Planet, published in 1938, and concludes with That Hideous Strength, published in 1945. Although the books share Ransom and a broad fictional universe, each has a distinct setting: Mars in the first, Venus in the second, and Earth in the third.

Perelandra is not the name of the trilogy’s opening planet. Malacandra is Lewis’s fictional name for Mars in Out of the Silent Planet, while Perelandra is the name associated with the second novel’s world.
