Which C.S. Lewis novel is set primarily on the fictional world of Perelandra?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the C.S. Lewis novel set primarily on the fictional world of Perelandra.

Published in 1943, Perelandra is the second book in Lewis’s Space Trilogy. Its protagonist, Elwin Ransom, travels to the planet Perelandra, also called Venus. There he encounters a newly created world whose inhabitants face a test involving obedience, temptation, and the possibility of moral failure.

The novel follows Out of the Silent Planet, which takes place largely on Mars, and precedes That Hideous Strength, whose setting returns mainly to Earth. Although the trilogy uses interplanetary travel, Lewis’s focus is philosophical and theological as much as scientific.

Perelandra is sometimes called Voyage to Venus in discussions of its setting, but that is a descriptive reference rather than the standard title of the published novel. The correct title is simply Perelandra.
