Perelandra is the C.S. Lewis novel set chiefly on the fictional planet Perelandra. Published in 1943, it is the second book in Lewis’s space-travel or Ransom trilogy.
The novel follows Elwin Ransom after his journey from Earth to Perelandra, a world also called Venus. There he encounters a newly created human society and becomes involved in a struggle over obedience, temptation, and the direction of planetary history.
Readers sometimes confuse Perelandra with Out of the Silent Planet, the first book in the trilogy. Out of the Silent Planet takes Ransom to Mars, while Perelandra takes him to Venus. The concluding volume, That Hideous Strength, returns the action largely to Earth and connects the cosmic conflict with a modern technological institution.
