Which C.S. Lewis novel features the character Eustace Scrubb?

The story behind the answer

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader features the character Eustace Scrubb.

Published in 1952, the novel follows Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, joined by their cousin Eustace, aboard King Caspian’s ship, the Dawn Treader. The voyage visits several islands and combines exploration, moral testing, and encounters with magical dangers.

Eustace begins as an unpleasant, self-important boy who dismisses Narnia. After greed leads him to become a dragon, he undergoes a painful transformation before Aslan restores him. His change is one of the book’s central character arcs.

Eustace later appears in The Silver Chair, where he helps introduce Jill Pole to Narnia. That later book is therefore sometimes given as the answer, but Eustace first appears in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The novel was the third Narnia book published.
