Which C.S. Lewis novel features the character Elwin Ransom traveling to Mars?

Out of the Silent Planet features Elwin Ransom traveling to Mars, which the novel calls Malacandra. C.S. Lewis published the book in 1938 as the opening volume of his Space Trilogy.

Ransom is a Cambridge philologist whose knowledge of languages becomes central to his survival and understanding of Malacandra. He is taken there by the scientist Weston and the businessman Devine, who view the planet through assumptions about conquest, profit, and human supremacy.

The novel’s Mars is not a simple barren landscape. Lewis presents a populated world containing several intelligent species and a moral order that challenges the attitudes of Ransom’s abductors. The later books, Perelandra and That Hideous Strength, continue Ransom’s role in a wider cosmic conflict.
