Aslan is the lion figure in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.
Aslan is the central ruler and creator figure of Narnia. He appears throughout the series as a powerful, wise, and compassionate character who guides the human and Narnian protagonists. His name comes from the Turkish word for “lion,” although Lewis’s character belongs to the imaginative world of Narnia rather than to Turkish history.
Aslan is often discussed as a symbolic representation of Jesus Christ, especially because of events in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lewis resisted treating the Narnia books as simple one-to-one allegories, however. He described them as stories in which Christian ideas emerged through a different imagined world. Aslan should therefore be understood both as a character in the narrative and as a figure with strong Christian associations.
