The C.S. Lewis science-fiction novel set on the fictional planet Perelandra is Perelandra.
Published in 1943, Perelandra is the second novel in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, following Out of the Silent Planet and preceding That Hideous Strength. The story follows philologist Elwin Ransom on Perelandra, a world also called Venus, where he confronts a crisis involving temptation, innocence, and the future of a newly created civilization.
The novel combines planetary romance, theological speculation, and philosophical debate. Its setting is not simply a version of Earth’s Venus; Lewis imagines a habitable world with floating islands and a distinct moral history. Readers sometimes identify the trilogy’s first book when asked about Perelandra because Ransom is introduced in Out of the Silent Planet. The title of the second novel refers both to the planet and to the world’s native name.
