Which C.S. Lewis book introduced the world to Narnia in 1950?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe introduced readers to Narnia in 1950. It was the first published volume of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series, although it is set second in the series’ internal chronology.

The story follows Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie after Lucy discovers a passage into Narnia through a wardrobe. There they encounter the White Witch, the faun Mr. Tumnus, and Aslan, the great lion who rules Narnia.

A common mix-up concerns the series order. The Magician’s Nephew describes Narnia’s creation and is chronologically earlier, but it was published later, in 1955. The 1950 book remains the best-known entry point and established the series’ central characters and setting.
