Which C. S. Lewis book argues for the value of traditional education and objective morality?

The story behind the answer

The Abolition of Man argues for the value of traditional education and objective morality.

Lewis published the book in 1943 after delivering the Riddell Memorial Lectures at the University of Durham. The work is divided into three chapters and responds to trends in education that Lewis believed treated moral judgments as merely subjective feelings.

A central concept is the Tao, Lewis’s term for a cross-cultural body of basic moral principles. He argues that abandoning objective values would undermine the formation of human beings rather than liberate them.

The book is not a novel and should not be confused with The Problem of Pain, which addresses suffering and Christian theodicy. The Four Loves focuses on different kinds of human affection.
