Which C.S. Lewis book features the fictional land of Glome?

The story behind the answer

Till We Have Faces features the fictional land of Glome. C.S. Lewis published the novel in 1956, describing it as a retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth from the perspective of Psyche’s sister, Orual.

Glome is a small ancient kingdom ruled first by Orual’s father and later by Orual herself. The story examines jealousy, love, self-knowledge, religious experience, and the difficulty of seeing one’s own motives clearly. Its title comes from the idea that a person cannot truly meet the gods until the person has a face or identity of their own.

The novel is sometimes overlooked beside Lewis’s Narnia books and Christian apologetic works. It is nevertheless one of his most psychologically complex and literary creations. The setting is not Narnia, and the book contains no Pevensie children or Aslan, although it engages deeply with myth and religious symbolism.
