Costa Concordia was the cruise ship grounded off Italy in January 2012.

On 13 January 2012, Costa Concordia struck underwater rocks near Isola del Giglio, an island off Tuscany. The impact opened the hull and caused the large ship to list severely. The evacuation involved more than 4,000 people, including passengers and crew.

The disaster killed 32 people and became one of the most serious modern cruise-ship accidents. Costa Concordia later remained partially submerged and on its side near the island while salvage teams prepared a complex removal operation.

The wreck was parbuckled upright in 2013, refloated in 2014 and towed to Genoa for dismantling. Costa Concordia is sometimes confused with Costa Serena or Costa Pacifica because they were related Costa Cruises ships from the same broad generation.
