Which cruise ship introduced Celebrity Cruises’ half-acre real-grass Lawn Club?
Answer
Celebrity Solstice
Answer
Celebrity Solstice
Celebrity Solstice introduced Celebrity Cruises’ half-acre real-grass Lawn Club.
Celebrity Solstice entered service in 2008 as the first ship in Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class. One of its most distinctive features was the Lawn Club, an outdoor area planted with living grass on the top deck. The space was designed for relaxed activities such as putting, picnicking and lawn games rather than as a conventional sports court.
Maintaining grass at sea required specialist care. Celebrity used horticultural staff and a system adapted to the ship’s exposed maritime environment, including irrigation and regular replacement or repair of turf when necessary.
The Lawn Club became a signature feature of later Solstice-class ships, including Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection. It is not the same as a synthetic turf deck or a small putting green: the notable feature was the substantial area of real lawn installed aboard a large cruise ship.
