Which cruise ship became the first in the world to feature an onboard ice-skating rink?

The story behind the answer

Voyager of the Seas became the first cruise ship in the world to feature an onboard ice-skating rink.

Royal Caribbean introduced Voyager of the Seas in 1999 as the first ship in its Voyager class. The vessel brought several attractions that were unusual or unprecedented on a cruise ship, including an ice rink, an indoor promenade, and a rock-climbing wall. The ice rink was named Studio B and was designed for both shows and passenger skating.

The rink demonstrated how cruise ships were evolving from transport-oriented vessels into large resort complexes. Guests could attend professional-style performances or use the facility during scheduled open-skating sessions, even while the ship was sailing in warm climates.

Later Royal Caribbean ships expanded the idea with larger entertainment venues and additional attractions. Voyager of the Seas should not be confused with later ships in the class, such as Adventure, Explorer, or Navigator of the Seas; Voyager was the first ship in the series.
