Which country’s national flag has a yellow sun with 32 rays?
Answer
Argentina
Answer
Argentina
Argentina’s national flag has a yellow Sun of May with 32 rays.
The sun appears at the center of the white stripe in the civil and state versions of the flag. It has a face and 32 alternating straight and wavy rays: 16 of each type. The blue-white-blue design was created by Manuel Belgrano and first raised on 27 February 1812.
The Sun of May commemorates the May Revolution of 1810, which began the process leading to Argentine independence from Spanish rule. The light blue and white colours are associated with the sky and with the cockades used by supporters of the revolution.
A common mix-up is to assume every Argentine flag includes the sun. Historically, the flag used by civilians often appeared without it, while the version with the sun is the official national flag for state use and public institutions. Argentina declared independence on 9 July 1816.
