Which country won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 with Måneskin’s “Zitti e buoni”?

The story behind the answer

Italy won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 with Måneskin’s “Zitti e buoni”.

The 2021 contest was held in Rotterdam after the 2020 edition was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Italy was represented by the rock band Måneskin, whose performance of “Zitti e buoni” gave the country its third Eurovision victory.

Italy received 524 points in the grand final. Its result was especially notable because Måneskin brought a contemporary rock sound to a competition often associated with pop, ballads and dance music. The band had first gained wide attention after winning the Italian Sanremo Music Festival in 2021.

Italy’s previous Eurovision victories came in 1964, with Gigliola Cinquetti, and 1990, with Toto Cutugno. Måneskin’s win led to Italy hosting the 2022 contest in Turin, where the band returned as a featured interval act.
