Which country won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 with Emmelie de Forest’s “Only Teardrops”?

The story behind the answer

Denmark won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 with Emmelie de Forest’s “Only Teardrops.”

De Forest performed the folk-pop song in Malmö, Sweden, accompanied by barefoot dancers and musicians playing drums and flutes. The performance’s acoustic sound and visual simplicity helped it become one of the final’s most recognizable entries.

Denmark scored 281 points, finishing ahead of Azerbaijan and Ukraine. “Only Teardrops” was written by Lise Cabble, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard.

The victory was Denmark’s third Eurovision win. It also meant that Denmark would host the contest the following year, when Copenhagen staged the 2014 competition at B&W Hallerne.
