Which country won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with Niamh Kavanagh’s “In Your Eyes”?

The story behind the answer

Ireland won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with Niamh Kavanagh’s “In Your Eyes”.

The 1993 contest was held in Millstreet, Ireland, on 15 May. Niamh Kavanagh represented the host country with the ballad “In Your Eyes” and won the final with 187 points. The song gave Ireland its second Eurovision victory in a row, following Linda Martin’s 1992 win.

Kavanagh’s victory was part of Ireland’s strongest period in Eurovision history. Ireland went on to win again in 1994 and 1996, producing an unprecedented three consecutive victories from 1992 through 1994.

The 1993 event also introduced a qualifying competition for countries seeking places in the main contest, as participation had expanded. That preliminary event was held in Ljubljana and was separate from the main Eurovision final in Millstreet.
