Norway won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1985 with Bobbysocks!’s “La det swinge.”
The 1985 contest was held in Gothenburg, Sweden, after Sweden’s win with Herreys in 1984. Bobbysocks!, a duo consisting of Hanne Krogh and Elisabeth Andreassen, represented Norway with the upbeat song “La det swinge,” whose title means “Let it swing.”
Norway won with 123 points, finishing ahead of Germany and Sweden. The victory was Norway’s first Eurovision win, following several low results and nil-point finishes in earlier contests. The duo’s retro-inspired staging and lively performance helped make the song a standout.
The result is sometimes confused with Norway’s later victories, especially Alexander Rybak’s 2009 win and Secret Garden’s 1995 win. “La det swinge” was the first Norwegian entry to take the title, establishing a successful Eurovision tradition for the country.
