Which country won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1984 with the Herreys song “Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley”?

The story behind the answer

Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1984 with the Herreys song “Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley”.

The Herreys were three Swedish brothers: Per, Richard and Louis Herrey. They performed “Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley” at the contest in Luxembourg on 5 May 1984. The song was known for its upbeat presentation and the performers’ distinctive golden boots.

Sweden won the final with 145 points, finishing ahead of Ireland and Spain. The victory was Sweden’s second Eurovision win, following ABBA’s triumph with “Waterloo” in 1974.

The Herreys are often remembered as one of Eurovision’s first successful sibling groups. Their win also began a long period in which Sweden became one of the contest’s most consistently successful countries, later adding victories by performers including Carola, Charlotte Nilsson and Loreen.
